StArSHIP FOUNDATION HOME SAFETY APp

StarShip FOUNDATION - 2020

Project Summary

The Starship Foundation identified that over 200 children in New Zealand were hospitalised each month due to unintentional and preventable household injuries. To address this issue, I needed to design a convenient mobile app enabling families to identify and address unsafe areas in their homes.

New Zealand's existing solution for this problem was a printable PDF checklist... It was obvious to everyone that in this day and age this was not an ideal solution.

The task was simple, to turn the current checklist into a convenient, interactive checklist that provides a safety score and actionable insights for the user based on their answers.

REflecton

This project had a slightly lower budget and faster turn around times, meaning that some parts of the process were streamlined. This isn't ideal but it's unrealistic to expect every project to follow a perfect formula.

My rough process for this project involved discovery sessions, fast-tracked research, wireframing, designing hi-fidelity screens, prototyping and handing off to developers. Open feedback loops were maintained throughout the project with clear communication between all parties to ensure everyone was on the same wavelength.

Overall a successful project that has been implemented in NZ for the past 4 years. Probably just about time for a little refresh of this bad boy.
